The 64th session of the CND

The 64th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs took place from 12 to 16 April 2021 in Vienna and online. 

The Commission, held this year in a hybrid format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, brought together participants representing over 130 Member States, 17 intergovernmental organizations, 76 non-governmental organizations and several UN entities in person in Vienna and online. The discussions, side events and exhibitions explored joint solutions to address the world drug problem, fostering solidarity, shared responsibility and international cooperation to improve health coverage, protect societies and recover better from COVID19. Inter-agency cooperation and coordination of efforts in addressing and countering the world drug problem, Contributions by the Commission to the work of the Economic and Social Council, including follow-up to and review and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Implementation of the international drug control treaties and more were discussed on the plenary sessions. More than 100 online side events took place, marking an inclusive approach towards multilateralism and engaging diverse voices in finding joint solutions to the world drug problem, including the relationship between COVID19 and drugs, safety for frontliners handling dangerous drugs and chemicals, and more. The Regional Public Charity Organization " Drug Abuse Prevention Centre" took part in the session on-line. Two events were held in the lead-up to the 64th session: UNODC Youth forum 2021 and UNODC-WHO informal scientific network meeting.
